Before buying or using a generator or inverter make sure it is fitted with an RCD. Keep in mind a circuit breaker, found on the yellow one, is not the same as an RCD. The generator you need to be safe and smart is the black one. Generators and inverters must have an RCD to be Worksafe compliant on hazardous building construction sites.

What is wrong with this picture? Something is definitely missing. For this Temp Board RCD to be compliant it must have a tag stating the mandatory monthly trip time, whether it passes, when the test was performed and who carried out the testing. All the information on the tag must also be available in a Logbook for record keeping. Temp Boards must be tested and tagged monthly to be Worksafe compliant.

Power boards are not allowed on hazardous construction sites. They are designed for indoor, domestic or office environments. They are extremely dangerous when used outdoors. First of all, they do not have an RCD switch. Power boards also do not have an IP rating. Therefore, they are not weather proof and they do not offer any protection against water, sand, dirt or mud. The orange RCD box is what you must use to be safe, smart and Worksafe compliant.

Understanding and minimising risk is critical for a safe workplace. Fires can happen in any environment. Compliance means having Australian standard fire extinguishers. Cheap foreign fire extinguishers that have no reference to ASNZ 1841.5 are not rigorously tested to ensure manufacturing quality. Why jeopardise your insurance policy?

Makita mitre saws are another great tool. Unfortunately, a common issue is their starter button. They either go missing, pop out or break easily. TAITT keeps a supply of starter buttons in stock, so you can get on with the work preventing costly delays.
